The second International Exchange Day at Nantong College of Science and Technology on Nov 28 attracted students from Laos, Bangladesh, Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia to show their distinctive cultures.

From the passionate Bangladeshi dance to the soft and graceful Indonesian songs, from the energetic Thai dance to the colorful folk costume shows, students from all over the world brought out their cultural characteristics with full enthusiasm.

In addition to the cultural performances, the students also set up different cultural exhibition booths, where they shared their own food with teachers and students and exchanged their own cultures.

Specialties made by the students, such as the Thai-style Tom Yum soup, Indonesian cone-shaped rice and Gado-gado, a dish of mixed vegetables, and distinctive Malaysian coconut rice, satisfied the appetites of numerous visitors.

A row of white ropes hanging in front of the Laotian booth also caught the eyes of visitors. According to a first-year Laotian student named Meng Xin (Chinese name), the rope is used by locals to pray for good fortune on major holidays, or extend best wishes to guests, meaning to tie good luck to their hands.

Meng, along with her friends, put on a folk dance show at the event. She also sang a Chinese song to extend her love for China. The girl gave a thumbs-up to the event, which gave her an opportunity to learn Chinese culture while displaying her own features.

Chinese students at the school also presented a martial arts and traditional costumes show, which were applauded by the international spectators. They felt that the event has brought them closer and made them better understand each other.

Nantong College of Science and Technology is striving to build an open and welcoming campus culture. The school is also growing popularity among international students to further their studies in China.
