Martin Goffriller, an associated professor at the School of Architecture and Design of China University of Mining and Technology, was mostly attracted by the city's ancient architecture.

"Hubu Mountain and Huilongwo ancient street are like a world of fantasy that is full of Xuzhou's ancient characteristics. They are fascinating to architects like me," Goffriller said.

He added that he enjoyed the slow pace of life in Xuzhou and has spent the Lunar New Year holiday, also known as Spring Festival, at a Chinese friend's home, where he and a group of friends cooked a specialty dish of their own, as well as made dumplings together.
